The p-Block Elements class 12 Notes Chemistry Chapter 7
CBSE Class 12 Chemistry Quick Revision Notes Chapter 7 The P- Block elements
1. The p- Block rudiments/ elements: Rudiments/elements belonging to groups 13 to 18 of the periodic table are called p- block rudiments/elements
2.General electronic configuration of p- block rudiments/elements :The p- block rudiments/elements characterized by the ns2np1- 6 valence shell electronic configuration.
3.Representative rudiments/elements : Elements/rudiments belonging to the s and p- blocks in the periodic table are called the representative rudiments/elements or main group rudiments/elements.
4.Inert Pair effect : The tendency of ns2 electron brace to share in bond conformation decreases with the increase in infinitesimal size. Within a group the advanced oxidation state becomes less stable with respect to the lower oxidation state as the infinitesimal number increases. This trend is called ‘ inert brace effect ’. In other words, the energy needed to unpair the electrons is further than energy released in the conformation of two fresh bonds.
